RUN FOR THE TURTLES
Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium held an annual run that benefitted the Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program (STCRP). I designed the commemorative t-shirts available to runners and all of the event materials including digital & print ads, flyers and social media graphics.
I designed the t-shirts and assets for the 35th (2021), 34th (2020) and 31st (2017) annual runs. I did not design the logotype, as that was a timeless asset for the lab.
Shown is the t-shirt design for each year, along with the original sketch for the artwork, drawn on my iPad. Also shown is an example of a social media graphic or poster/flyer if available.
35TH ANNUAL
RUN FOR THE TURTLES
This year’s design was based on a loose interpretation of the World Turtle. After meeting with the STCRP, it was decided that a focus should be put on representing the tracks of a green sea turtle that is found on beaches during nesting season, along with the stakes that Mote constructs to protect sea turtle nests from human activity.
I started with a digital sketch of the idea on my iPad, then vectorized the design and chose colors.
After the t-shirt design was nailed down, I would continue to design social media graphics and other event signage.
34TH ANNUAL
RUN FOR THE TURTLES
This year’s design was meant to be a minimalistic and geometric representation of a loggerhead turtle returning to the sea after nesting, with the focus on depicting a tracker placed on the back of its shell.
I started with a digital sketch of the design on my iPad, then vectorized the design and played with color options.
After the design is complete, I would proceed with designing social media graphics and other event materials.
31ST ANNUAL
RUN FOR THE TURTLES
This year’s design was created during my graphic design internship in 2016-17. The team felt that we should depict loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings. The banner was added to imply the “race” that hatchlings take to get to the sea, as well as a loose representation of nesting stakes.
During this time, my sketches were mostly done in graphite within my sketchbook. You can see the loose design I went with below.
After the design was complete, I used these graphics within social media graphics and other event materials.
